Hometown Talent Spotlight: Bridget Moore

Tonight, as part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Elevator Project, choreographer and dancer Bridget Moore’s namesake company B. MOORE DANCE, is premiering a new work, ROOTED: Envisage Dance Installations. B.MOORE DANCE is one of the most compelling new dance companies in Dallas. Here’s a little insight on Bridget and tonight’s world premiere work!

CENTER: Bridget, you have such an interesting resume in the United States and abroad, but tell us about your background here in Dallas, and your new dance company?

BRIDGET: My roots are aligned in Dallas and connected to my early stages as a young aspiring dancer. I am a graduate of Arts Magnet High School, now known as the prestigious, Booker. T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. (The school where magic happens daily!) I also had the pleasure and honor of teaching at the remarkable school for three years, prior to being invited to do a cultural exchange with students at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, South Korea. I relocated and resided in South Korea for three years, prior to serving as the Artistic Director of Dallas Black Dance Theatre and Joffrey Ballet School-Texas. In 2018, I formed B. MOORE DANCE to serve as platform to empower and transcend generations through the art of dance by cultivating the arts through leadership, education and performances. We most recently celebrated our 2nd Year Anniversary, and I am so proud of all that we have been able to accomplish since our inception.

CENTER: How are you and your dancers adapting to COVID? (How do dancers rehearse and perform safely?)

BRIDGET: We spent the last six months rehearsing on Zoom to ensure the safety of our dancers. We most recently started working “live” in the studio and we wear our masks in rehearsals, and practice social distancing within the space. Our dancers have their temperatures taken daily and have been tested to ensure the well-being of all that physically move within our space.

CENTER: Your world premiere performance this weekend, ROOTED: Envisage Dance Installations. That’s a unique title. Can you tell us a little about this piece?

BRIDGET: I am a native of Dallas, and my journey as an artist started here. The works that I will present, represent my connection and journey in the arts. These works are essentially branches of my career and I feel very much connected to them. ROOTED is an evening comprised of choreographic works that I have created within the span of my career. I have transposed these larger works into solos, duets and small group work. The repertoire reflects the past, present and future. There’s something that everyone can identify with and connect to. I am loving this process of evolution!!!

CENTER: You choreographed this specifically for Strauss Square stage. How is this a unique space?

BRIDGET: The Annette Strauss Square stage is absolutely stunning and provide beautiful scenery with a great amount of open space, which is perfect for socially distanced seating. I was able envision this evening of work, immediately after walking through the space. It was such an inspiration, very casual and intimate! I love it and can’t wait to share what we have been working on with everyone.

CENTER: We are very excited to have B.MOORE DANCE as one of our first live performances in Strauss Square since the shutdown. How are you feeling about the night?

BRIDGET: It is such an honor and a pleasure to have the opportunity to choreograph and present work at Strauss Square, particularly at a time when the arts is needed. I am very thankful for AT&T Performing Arts Center, for affording the opportunity to B. MOORE DANCE. It is truly amazing for us to be able to work in a large venue that we may not have been able to do otherwise. We are super excited about it and look forward to a lovely evening dancing underneath the stars.
